Public buildings and commercial sites around Valdosta

Lowndes County has chosen Kellerman Construction to design and build its new animal shelter. The scope includes preparing the site as well as putting up the building, with a construction amendment brought before the county in May. The project is listed at 337 Gil Harbin Industrial Boulevard. It's one of the public jobs where there's already a named builder behind the plans.

The proposed new Lowndes Middle School is earlier in its development. The school district sought a design team in March. That gives the project a clear purpose, but it doesn't establish that building work has started. We've kept it described as planned construction rather than turning the proposal into an active site.

Around those public projects, the records include hotels, smaller commercial buildings, and offices. There are sites on Norman Drive and Northwind Boulevard, along with work farther out toward Hahira and Lake Park. Most of the regional job list is in Lowndes County, and housing makes up much of the full count. The public and commercial projects offer a closer look at the smaller share of work beyond those homebuilding records.

Who to call

Contractors and the equipment they run

Reames & Son is based in Valdosta and works on roads, interchanges, and larger site projects across South and Middle Georgia. Its crews handle earthwork and drainage as well as paving. The company also runs asphalt plants in Valdosta, Sparks, Perry, and Cairo, so materials production is part of the business alongside the construction work.

RPI Underground appears in Valdosta's water and sewer contracting records. The city previously hired it to extend those services to newly annexed areas. Excavators and drilling equipment appear in its company filings. That past city work helps explain the type of contractor it is; it doesn't mean RPI has been hired for the school or animal shelter.

About the data on this page

New-build jobs include homes, commercial buildings and other new construction. Maintenance and renovation work aren't in these counts. The map shows jobs with coordinates, so it won't include every job in the list.

Some project records don't include permits. That doesn't mean the job has no permits. The stories also draw on owner, builder and public-agency updates. A story may discuss a development left out of the totals because its record is duplicated or incorrectly classified. Grouped markers on large maps keep a location from one of the jobs they represent, rather than showing every address separately.

Contractors are matched through offices or project activity in this market. Fleet details are company-wide equipment on file, not verified purchases or a count of machines at these sites. Public filings often arrive 30–90 days after the event. The refresh badge is the page's update date; individual dates appear in the tables.
