San Jose construction equipment demand
If your territory includes San Jose and the South Bay, this page puts construction jobs and contractor equipment records in one place. Filmore uses project and permit records for the jobs and company filings for the equipment. You'll find addresses, local companies, and a map covering Santa Clara and San Benito counties. We've also looked into the work behind some of the larger projects, including Microsoft's Alviso data center and the expansion at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Preston Pipelines has 15 excavators and 13 wheel loaders on file.

Underground work at larger campuses
Microsoft's Alviso data center has moved into another phase of construction. HITT announced the groundbreaking in June 2026, following earlier site development, and expects completion in 2028. HITT is the general contractor. Preston Pipelines says it's working with HITT and Microsoft on the underground utilities.
At Good Samaritan Hospital, the order of the work helps explain the long schedule. The campus expansion starts with a parking structure, followed by a central utility plant and then the patient tower. The hospital puts the whole project at roughly 715,000 square feet of new construction, with completion expected in 2032. The October 2025 groundbreaking began a phased job, so it doesn't mean all the work on the tower is already underway.
Elsewhere in the South Bay, the records include industrial buildings, smaller commercial sites, and mixed-use projects. Some permits cover a whole building; others describe a separate part of a larger site. In Cupertino, for example, permits at The Rise cover different blocks of the development. Those shouldn't be read as one building moving through one construction schedule.
Who to call
Contractors and the equipment they run
Preston Pipelines, based in Milpitas, installs storm drains, sewer and water lines, underground fire protection, and other utility systems. It also handles excavation and shoring. Its role at Alviso is confirmed by the company, while the excavators and wheel loaders in its filings are company-wide equipment records.
San Jose-based Lewis and Tibbitts handles underground utilities, grading, paving, and concrete, along with underground electrical work. Its equipment filings include mini excavators, backhoes, and skid steers. The two companies give you a closer look at the utility contractors in this market without assuming they share the same jobs.

Almost all the listed jobs in this regional view are in Santa Clara County. That includes San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and nearby cities. San Benito County is included too, but the records show far fewer jobs there. The separate San Francisco and Oakland page covers the Peninsula farther north and the East Bay.

At 653 North Seventh Street, plans describe a six-story mixed-use building with commercial space and one level of underground parking. The application was still under review when we checked. It adds a smaller urban site to the larger campus projects discussed above.

About the data on this page
New-build jobs include homes, commercial buildings and other new construction. Maintenance and renovation work aren't in these counts. The map shows jobs with coordinates, so it won't include every job in the list.
Some project records don't include permits. That doesn't mean the job has no permits. The stories also draw on owner, builder and public-agency updates. A story may discuss a development left out of the totals because its record is duplicated or incorrectly classified. Grouped markers on large maps keep a location from one of the jobs they represent, rather than showing every address separately.
Contractors are matched through offices or project activity in this market. Fleet details are company-wide equipment on file, not verified purchases or a count of machines at these sites. Public filings often arrive 30–90 days after the event. The refresh badge is the page's update date; individual dates appear in the tables.
