San Francisco and Oakland construction equipment demand

This page brings together construction jobs and contractors on both sides of the Bay. Filmore combines project and permit records with equipment details from company filings, so you can get to know the sites and the businesses working in the wider area. It covers San Francisco, the East Bay, San Mateo County, and Marin. Below, you'll find company profiles, job locations, and a map, plus a closer look at hospital construction and the underground work described in local permits.

Rebuilding campuses and adding space below ground

UCSF's Oakland hospital campus is changing in stages. Temescal Hall, a support building, is finished. Now demolition is making room for the new hospital. UCSF's October update expects that building's groundbreaking in spring 2027 and an opening in 2031. Rudolph and Sletten is the general contractor for the new hospital project, which will add seven stories to the campus.

Across the Bay, Sutter is building a five-story care complex beside its Mission Bernal hospital. The project includes underground parking at the corner of César Chávez and Valencia streets. Sutter broke ground in June 2025 and is planning a 2028 opening. Nearby, the related Guerrero Plaza work adds changes at street level, including landscaping and pedestrian improvements.

Those hospital projects are part of a wider mix that includes industrial sites, commercial buildings, and utility work. In Hayward, an approved permit for STACK's Eden Landing data center covers trenching and conduit along the road to bring temporary power to the site. Separate applications cover the building's fire alarm and emergency communications systems.

Who to call

Contractors and the equipment they run

McGuire and Hester handles heavy civil and sitework projects, including mass excavation, underground pipelines, grading, and paving. Its grading work can involve shoring and dewatering as well as preparing the final surface. The company's equipment records include excavators, mini excavators, and wheel loaders.

Silverado Contractors specializes in demolition and excavation. Its work ranges from removing whole buildings and industrial facilities to taking out selected parts of structures that will remain. Site preparation and recycling are also part of its services. These profiles describe the companies' work across the market; neither is being identified here as a subcontractor on UCSF's new hospital.

San Francisco and Oakland construction map

The listed jobs are spread across the region, with more in Alameda and Contra Costa counties than in San Francisco itself. San Mateo County also has a substantial share, while Marin has a smaller group. The San Jose page covers Santa Clara County separately, so the two pages don't treat the whole Bay Area as one market.

At 2000 Loveridge Road in Pittsburg, an application for an industrial air-separation installation covers underground work and foundations, with site grading referenced in separate records. That's a different scope from a new warehouse, even though both can appear under industrial construction.

About the data on this page

New-build jobs include homes, commercial buildings and other new construction. Maintenance and renovation work aren't in these counts. The map shows jobs with coordinates, so it won't include every job in the list.

Some project records don't include permits. That doesn't mean the job has no permits. The stories also draw on owner, builder and public-agency updates. A story may discuss a development left out of the totals because its record is duplicated or incorrectly classified. Grouped markers on large maps keep a location from one of the jobs they represent, rather than showing every address separately.

Contractors are matched through offices or project activity in this market. Fleet details are company-wide equipment on file, not verified purchases or a count of machines at these sites. Public filings often arrive 30–90 days after the event. The refresh badge is the page's update date; individual dates appear in the tables.
