More than a year into work at Florida International Tradeport in Palmetto, DEME still had crews on the site in its 2026 update. The Sarasota contractor had moved from the early excavation into drainage, underground utilities, and roads.

Palmetto sitework and North Port's new station
The tradeport is one of two Palmetto projects on DEME's work list. At Moccasin Wallow near State Road 64 and Interstate 75, its crews have handled clearing and excavation, built retention ponds, and worked on the road. Back at the tradeport, the company says it has stayed involved as the site moved into utility and roadway construction.
Farther south in North Port, Hurricane Ian damaged Fire Station 81 on the City Hall campus. The city demolished the old building and brought in Wharton-Smith to construct a replacement. The $17.5 million station topped out in July 2026, and the city expects to finish it in December.

Station 81 is at 4980 City Center Boulevard, where the old fire station stood. The city also plans an emergency operations center next door, but that is a separate project and is not included in the station rebuild.
